These Make Life Easy and Breezy for Cooks and Foodies

No Christmas Gift Guide for Cooks is complete without kitchen gadgets.. as far as that goes, nothing is complete without kitchen gadgets – in my world, anyway. Utterly and completely obsessed with these guys.

The kitchen gadgets below are ten I carefully chose from Amazon to highlight in the Christmas Guide. And by “highlight,” I mean I grabbed them to show you while throwing them into my own Amazon cart. I am not (nor have I ever been) above Christmas shopping for myself!

Each link opens in a new window.

Onion Holder/Slicer
1. Easy Onion Holder Slicer: Why? Because smelly hands are never a turn-on and cuts on your fingers hurt like the dickens. This stainless steel gadget is less than $5, making it a great gift to grab for several cooks on your list.

Rachael Ray Bench Scrape Food Mover
2. Rachael Ray Bench Scrape (Food Mover): I wouldn’t take anything for mine. In addition to keeping your hands free from the smell of garlic and onions (get the impression I’m a stinky hand hater?), this food mover makes cooking easier and quicker. It also makes you feel like you’re in the middle of your own cooking show which is pretty cool. As you can see, mine is red, but these bench scrapes come in a wide variety of colors.

Rachael Ray Peeler with Brush
3. Rachael Ray Veggie Peeler and Brush: This guy is super cool. Mine is red (I don’t have a picture of mine, so I’m borrowing a pic of an orange one) and I use it almost daily. This kitchen tool is a 3-in-1 deal. The vegetable peeler makes quick work of potatoes or carrots, the “eye picker” saves your fingernails, and the brush is perfect for cleaning mushrooms, potatoes, etc. This is one useful tool.

Handheld Grater
4. Handheld Grater: Another kitchen tool I use regularly is the handheld grater pictured above. I use mine all the time for zesting fruit, shredding Parmesan cheese onto pasta & salads, and “smashing” garlic. Garlic plays better with other ingredients when it isn’t clunky and this grater gets it nice and agreeable. Furthermore, it just looks a lot more impressive to use one of these at the table than a box grater when grating cheese.

Colorful Measuring Cups
5. Colorful Measuring Cups: Why? They’re pretty, that’s why! But they’re more than just good-looking – they’re very useful, especially when it comes to distinguishing between 1/3 cup and 1/4 cup. The stainless steel variety of measuring cups are professional and lovely, but when your eyes aren’t what they used to be OR when you’re trying to function early in the morning, those little numbers can be a bugger to see. Once you memorize which color coordinates with which measuring cup, you’re set.

Mini Yogurt Maker Machine
6. Mini Yogurt Maker Machine: How cool is this?! This portable DIY Yogurt Maker is just around $15 and promises tons of fun and deliciousness. Available in the beautiful blue color shown above as well as a fun orange. (If you’re interested in a more elaborate machine, check out the Automatic Digital Yogurt Maker)

Wooden Spoon Holder
7. Wooden Spoon Holder: Here’s another one I’m especially excited about – a wooden spoon holder. Where has this guy been all my life? I hate the cumbersome task of trying to lean my wooden spoon against this pan or prop it up next to that dish. Inevitably, if you try to stand it in a cup, it tips the cup over and you find yourself inventing new words (fun, sure but not time efficient).

Bamboo Spoon Set
8. Bamboo Spoon Set: Technically, maybe these beauties don’t qualify as kitchen gadgets, but they’re too gorgeous to leave out of any top 10 list. I love the colored silicone handles almost as much as the bamboo, itself. These are just uncommonly pretty. For a more upscale gift idea, check out the Bamboo Wooden Spoons with Cotton Muslin Bag (the set is gorgeous).

Spice Rack Clips for the inside of a cabinet
9. Spice Clip Strips (Set of 3/Holds 12 Spices): I’m not naming names or anything, but some people think they have to have every kitchen gadget and tool that comes out. “Rachael Ray’s name is on it?… Give me 3!” Sigh. Some people. The problem is I… I mean they… run out of storage space fast and gadgets begin fighting it out for space. Fortunately, space saving devices are out there that save the day. Like my gadgets, spices tend to take over my kitchen as well. These space clip strips are the perfect way to get spices up and out of the way – freeing up coveted counter, shelf, or cabinet space. Two sets of these on the inside of my kitchen pantry is something I have in the works.

Rachael Ray Garbage Bowl
10. Rachael Ray Garbage Bowl: If you don’t have one, you need one. If the cooks in your life don’t have one, they need one. As you can see, my own Garbage Bowl is a beautiful purple, but they are available in dark green, bright green, orange, blue, red, and marine blue. I love mine and I’m not sure how I ever functioned without it.
